SPRING CRUISE

TO COLTISHALL

Friday 3rd May - Monday 6th May 2024

Cruise Leaders: Jimmy and Carolyn James

ITINERARY UPDATE 1st MAY IN RED BELOW

Some of us are in the water, some have even had a sail this season, and the remainder are probably well under way to joining those already afloat.

So, we now get to the planning for the season, and for some reason I have ended up with the responsibility for organising the Spring Cruise??

Stubbornly high-water levels seem to have deemed anything above Potter as too much of a risky challenge (don’t forget we arranged a Winter Wade!), and with having given the White Horse a good go on the Winter Wade, a change of pub was in order. As we have, in recent years, been able to attract a reasonable turn out for the Spring Cruise decent moorings, and a decent pub are a must.

With this, and the ‘If it is not broken don’t fix it’ attitude, we are off to Coltishall again for 2024 - yes I know it will be a bit like ‘Ground Hog Day’.

Friday 3rd May those able to, and keen enough will be meeting in Thurne Dyke, or on the club moorings, perhaps dining in Thurne Lion. There is an EACC table booked for 7pm, and if you wish to join that table and dine in Thurne Lion individuals will have to make their own booking contacting the Lion direct 01692 671806.

Saturday 4th May will see the fleet make upstream to Wroxham, with informal lunch stops at perhaps St Benet’s, or Cockshoot. For the evening mooring on Saturday 4th May: Contrary to information originally published the water levels remain high and there being little or no dry land at Jo and Cally’s we will move to ‘Plan B’, which will be an overnight stop for the fleet on the viaduct 24hr moorings in Wroxham – Jo will NOT now be bringing his fire pit down so please make your own cooking arrangements.

Sunday 5th May We have booked us in at The Recruiting Sergeant in Coltishall (well actually Horstead, but you know where I mean) for our Sunday evening meal. We will be dining in the pub this year, we will not be required to undertake pre-ordering of food, but you are welcome to check out the menu online to give you an idea of what will be on offer. As many of you know there is plenty of good 24 hr mooring available at Coltishall Common, or for the more adventurous there is mooring up by the old lock (but you will need to watch the trees, and may have to dip your mast to make right up to the end) where you will be much closer to The Recruiting Sergeant.

Dogs are welcome in the pub.

For those of you who may wish to go ashore (you are on holiday?) for breakfast on Monday morning; The Kings Head  will welcome you in for breakfast from 8am, or if you prefer a short walk before breakfast, ‘A piece of cake' tea rooms (up near the garage) will be doing breakfasts from 9am.

Monday 6th May we will leave to you all to make your own way home.

Note: If the water levels are still high for the cruise, those of you who need a bit of air draft may wish to check tide times to make it under Wroxham bridge. (Ed: Check out the Barnes Brinkcraft Web Cam for a real time view of the Wroxham Bridge clearance height board. Wait until it zooms in to Preset: 3)

Those of you attending please let the leaders know on the link below.
